Jawan, officially identified as YM82, is one of the most exciting young male leopards currently recorded in Yala National Park. Since his first record in July 2025, he has quickly attracted attention among safari visitors, photographers, and leopard enthusiasts.From the beginning, Jawan showed unusual confidence for a young male. While many leopards of his age remain cautious and secretive, Jawan moves through his range with strength, energy, and purpose. His behaviour suggests a young male already learning how to survive in one of the most competitive leopard territories in Sri Lanka.Jawan is frequently seen around Tanki Gala, Jamburagala, and Thelambukema. These rocky and forested areas provide him with good shelter, hunting opportunities, and resting places. He is often observed moving across rocky outcrops, walking through dry forest patches, or resting in elevated places where he can quietly watch his surroundings.One of Jawan’s most recognisable habits is spending long hours on large rocks or resting high among tree branches. These elevated resting places give him shade, safety, and a clear view of the area around him. For visitors, such moments often create unforgettable photographic opportunities.Jawan is also known for his active and unpredictable nature. Whether he is stalking prey, climbing rocks, patrolling his range, or appearing suddenly from the forest, he brings a sense of excitement to every sighting. His energetic behaviour has already made him one of the most admired young male leopards in Yala.Although still young, Jawan carries himself with the confidence of a future dominant male. His continued movements, territorial behaviour, and interactions with other leopards will be important to observe in the coming years.With his powerful presence, bold character, and growing reputation, Jawan YM82 is becoming one of the remarkable young leopards of Yala National Park.
